Lawn and Garden Expo is $5 for anyone 12 years old and older, and free for children who are younger. Photo by Marshall Hinsley.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Schedule of Presentations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each year, the expo focuses on a gardening theme with experts of various topics giving presentations and demonstrations; for 2023, the speakers scheduled to give presentations throughout the day will emphasize wildflowers, prairie restoration and native plant landscaping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Special guests include John Thomas, owner of <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wildseedfarms.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Wildseed Farms<\/a> in Fredericksburg, Texas, a source for more than 80 varieties of wildflowers seeds, and Andrea Delong-Amaya who&#8217;s the director of horticulture for the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wildflower.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center<\/a> in Austin with more than 30 years of experience in native plants and native landscaping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-8506018600647638\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-8506018600647638\" data-ad-slot=\"7257890953\"><\/ins>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:27px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The expo presentation schedule:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>10:00 a.m.: <strong>Pocket Prairies<\/strong> with Ellis County Master Gardener Rob Franks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>11:00 a.m.: <strong>What, When, Where and How to Grow Wildflowers<\/strong> with John Thomas of Wildseed Farms<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>12:30 p.m.: <strong>Pollination<\/strong> with Ellis County Master Gardener and Master Naturalist Sara Gouge<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2:00 p.m.: <strong>Creating Beautiful Landscapes with Native Plants<\/strong> with Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center Director of Horticulture Andrea DeLong-Amaya<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Plant Sale and Other Attractions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also among the attractions to the expo, vendors from local landscaping and natural living oriented businesses will showcase their offerings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ellis County Master Gardeners will also man a booth for answering any gardening question alongside their plant sale that will offer hundreds of garden- and landscape-ready plants. The plant sale is an ever-popular attraction among the 2,000 or so expo attendees each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ellis County Master Gardener and Expo Chair Cheryl Sandoval says the <a href=\"https:\/\/txdg.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Texas Discovery Gardens<\/a> at Fair Park in Dallas will also host children&#8217;s activities and that the expo has a little something for everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Visitors to our expo will find a wide variety of plants, shrubs and trees, landscaping services as well as pool and hardscape designs for your backyard,&#8221; she says. &#8220;You\u2019ll find creative yard art and birdhouses, pest solutions, garden tools, locally-made food from canners and bakers and much more. Our children\u2019s workshop is always filled with fun and excitement for kids of all ages. Amethyst Stone with the North Texas Educational Group is visiting this year to answer the question, <em>What kind of Texas native snake is this?<\/em> This year includes Texas Discovery Gardens talking about the life cycle of butterflies and how pollination works. Kids will learn about bees, compositing, planting &#8212; plus there\u2019ll be various craft activities.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">More about Pocket Prairies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Are you interested in creating your own little spot of native Texas wildflowers?
