{"id":9044,"date":"2021-06-08T14:55:58","date_gmt":"2021-06-08T19:55:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/waxahachie360.com\/waxahachie-news\/?p=9044"},"modified":"2021-06-08T14:57:01","modified_gmt":"2021-06-08T19:57:01","slug":"waxahachie-police-to-conduct-junior-police-academy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/waxahachie360.com\/waxahachie-news\/2021\/06\/08\/waxahachie-police-to-conduct-junior-police-academy\/","title":{"rendered":"Waxahachie Police to conduct Junior Police Academy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Waxahachie Police Department is conducting a free Junior Police Academy for children 8 to 13 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The program offers two sessions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Academy 1 for children 8 &#8211; 10 years old will run June 21 &#8211; 23, 2021 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Academy 2 for children 11 &#8211; 13 years old will run July 12 &#8211; 14, 2021 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cadets will participate in a police canine demonstration, mock crime scene investigation, traffic stop scenarios, evidence processing sessions, fingerprinting, 911 dispatch play and a SWAT team demonstration in an interactive, hands-on learning experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"661\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" src=\"https:\/\/waxahachie360.com\/waxahachie-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/06\/waxahachie-police-vehicle-1024x661.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of Waxahachie Police Department vehicle.\" class=\"wp-image-9046\" srcset=\"https:\/\/waxahachie360.com\/waxahachie-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/06\/waxahachie-police-vehicle-1024x661.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/waxahachie360.com\/waxahachie-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/06\/waxahachie-police-vehicle-300x194.jpg 300w, https:\/\/waxahachie360.com\/waxahachie-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/06\/waxahachie-police-vehicle-768x496.jpg 768w, https:\/\/waxahachie360.com\/waxahachie-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/06\/waxahachie-police-vehicle.jpg 1200w\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The mission of the WPD Junior Police Academy is to foster positive interaction between the police, students and parents while providing youth with an introduction to law enforcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Police officers will serve as mentors, interacting with each student on a personal level. Throughout the process, leadership and team building skills will be emphasized as well as integrity, equality, respect and problem-solving skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Physical fitness will also be emphasized throughout the week as the Junior Police Cadets compete on an obstacle course and other team building exercises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The academy has limited spots available.
