She’s sweet. She’s black and white, and she’s the first to be adopted during Waxahachie Animal Services<\/a>‘ Clear the Shelter event this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Monday, Lily became the first companion animal adopted from the city’s animal shelter during a national pro-animal campaign that includes a month of fee-free adoptions so that the dogs and cats who have wound up at the shelter can find a loving home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clear the Shelter runs from August 23 to September 19, 2021, and to make adoption even easier, the city shelter located at 191 Lions Park in Waxahachie<\/a> is expanding its hours to open every Saturday during the event from 8:00 a.m. to noon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clear the Shelters<\/a> is an annual campaign organized by NBC and Telemundo to find loving homes for pets in need and to bring awareness to the pet overpopulation problem in almost every community throughout the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because of unneutered and unspayed dogs and cats, more than 1.5 million healthy companion animals are killed in animal shelters every year in the U.S. just because there are too few homes to give them all a place to live, according to data collected by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the fact that 1.5 million animals being killed is still too many, awareness campaigns such as Clear the Shelters have brought about benefits: the number of animals killed at shelters has fallen from a high around 2.6 million dogs and cats annually about a decade ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
