Curbside pick-up will still be available
Just one month into opening back up to the public after being closed for most of the year, Nicholas P. Sims Library will again close its doors as COVID-19 cases rise in Ellis County.
Sims Library staff issued notice about the closure at the end of the business day today, stating in a social media post, “Due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases, Sims Library will be closed to the public starting Tuesday, December 8, 2020. For the remainder of this week, capacity and time spent in the building will be limited. Curbside Pickup and After Hours Locker Pickup will remain available. We apologize for the inconvenience; the safety of our patrons and staff are our first priority.”
The library had only re-opened on November 10, 2020 after closing to mitigate coronavirus infection risks among its staff and patrons, and accommodate an extensive remodeling project that was underway for most of the year.
Information compiled on December 2, 2020 and offered by the Ellis County COVID-19 Dashboard shows Ellis County with 395 active cases of COVID-19, of which 115 are in Waxahachie, which leads the county in the number of active cases.
Of the 20 ICU beds available in Ellis County, 15 were occupied with COVID-19 patients as of the tally.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 119 deaths related to COVID–19 in the county.
