If you’re feeling ill or even just a little under the weather and don’t know if you’ve got allergies, the flu or COVID-19, you need to get tested right away. You can get a COVID-19 test at these locations in Waxahachie.

First a look at COVID-19 symptoms:

According to the C.D.C., COVID-19 symptoms may appear from 2 to 14 days after becoming infected with the novel coronavirus and may include the following symptoms:

The City of Waxahachie has set up a COVID-19 testing kiosk in the parking lot of the Waxahachie Senior Center with the capacity of testing several hundred people each week day and approximately 100 people during the 4-hour testing period on Saturdays.

The test is administered at no out-of-pocket cost for the patient.

The testing at the kiosk is a self-collected, shallow-nasal PCR swab test, and results are available in 1-2 days after the specimen is delivered to the lab.

Appointments are available Monday through Saturday at the following times:

Monday – Thursday: 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Saturday: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

MedExpress in Waxahachie offers COVID-19 evaluations from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. No appointments are necessary, and patients may simply drive to the Waxahachie MedExpress location, park and call the staff to arrange for a test in the parking lot.

Most insurance plans will cover the cost of testing, and patients are responsible for the urgent care copay that their policies specify.

For self-pay patients without insurance, the testing fee is $189 for a rapid test and $129 for a PCR lab test.

Rapid test results are available in as little as 15 minutes. PCR tests (which are more accurate) take 2-4 days for results.

CVS Pharmacy in Waxahachie offers free, limited COVID-19 testing by appointment for patients 10 years old and older. Tests are given through the drive-through.

Most insurance pays for testing, and copays are billed at a later date. Both I.D. and an insurance card are required for testing. If you are uninsured, the clinic will require your Social Security number and state driver’s license or I.D. so that your test fee can be submitted to the Federal COVID-19 testing program for payment. There should be $0 out-of-pocket costs for qualified patients.

CVS offers both rapid-result testing and lab testing. Because of limited appointment availability, the clinic is prioritizing tests for patients who are at higher risk of contracting or spreading coronavirus.

GoGetTested offers oral swab COVID-19 testing at various locations throughout North Texas, including locations in Ellis County.

The are no out-of-pocket charges for the test. Uninsured persons may get the test free of charge.

City of Ferris and Ellis County COVID-19 Testing and Infusion Center
The City of Ferris and Ellis County offer free COVID-19 testing at a temporary testing and treatment center located at 514 South Mabel in Ferris Texas [map].

All tests are free whether or not you have health insurance. You may get a test regardless of where you live.

Tests are administered on a first-come first-serve basis from 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. on weekdays. No appointment is needed.

At-Home Tests
In addition to testing administered by a healthcare professional, home testing kits are also available and may be purchased online for home delivery or picked up in person from most pharmacies.

Test kits range from the rapid-result tests that show results in about 15 minutes, to lab results that are sent a COVID-19 testing facility and offer results in a day or two after the specimen arrives at the lab.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, in partnership with the United States Postal Service, is offering four free rapid antigen at-home COVID-19 tests to every address in the country.

These tests can be taken anywhere and provide results within 30 minutes — no need to drop off at a lab.

The tests should arrive within 7 – 12 days from the day you place the order, so you’ll want to order now and have them on hand in case you need them.

You should use the tests when:

  • If you begin having COVID-⁠19 symptoms like fever, sore throat, runny nose, or loss of taste or smell, or
  • At least 5 days after you come into close contact with someone with COVID-⁠19, or
  • When you’re going to gather with a group of people, especially those who are at risk of severe disease or may not be up to date on their COVID-⁠19 vaccines.
