Are you looking for things to do in Waxahachie this weekend, or maybe the week to come?
Have you ever attended a performance at the Chautauqua? If not, you may want to see the Texas Gypsies there this weekend because this venue is a unique Waxahachie experience that will take you way back in time.
Also, I saw that someone just this week on social media was looking for a local source of churros, and there just happens to be a churro fest 32 minutes south of town on Saturday.
Workouts, George Strait (sort of), and felis catus along with plenty of live music round out what’s happening this weekend and beyond in and around Waxahachie. Here’s this week’s list.

The Waxahachie Symphony Association Presents, The Texas Gypsies at the Chautauqua Auditorium
Saturday
May 17, 2025

Chautauqua Auditorium Getzendaner Park
400 S Grand Ave, Waxahachie, TX 75165
Admission: from $10 – $20
First of all, if you’ve never attended an event at the Chautauqua Auditorium in Waxahachie’s Getzendaner Park, you’ll want to attend this concert for the sole reason of experiencing this relic of a stage — this time travel machine that will take you back to when ice cream socials and getting dressed up in formal wear for an outdoor event at the park were major events. And add to that that the Swing band The Texas Gypsies will be performing a music genre from a bygone era, and you will experience something truly unique that Waxahachie has to offer. When you exit, you may even see lightning bugs along the creek in the park.
Hillsboro Churrofest
Saturday
May 17, 2025
10:30 a.m. – 10:30 p.m.
Downtown Hillsboro
1 N Waco St, Hillsboro, TX 76645
Admission: free
The annual Churrofest in Hillsboro is a family-friendly event with children’s activities, food vendors, and, of course, churros — that sweet, fried cinnamon stick donut from South of the Border. Churros are thought to have been introduced to the Spanish by the Chinese way back in the 1500s, but who cares? They’re junk food that satisfies the sweet tooth, and the event in Hillsboro that celebrates them has games, a churro hunt, margaritas everywhere, a best churro competition and an evening lineup of Country, Tejano and Rap performances that includes:
5: 00 p.m.: Kenneth Gregory Cox 6: 00 p.m.: Hillsboro Worship (local Tejano Christian band) 7: 00 p.m.: Tercera Alianza 8: 00 p.m.: Jerry Deleon and Southbound 9: 00 p.m.: Paul Wall
If you go, take some spending money and sunscreen.

Railyard Park
455 S College St, Waxahachie, TX 75165
Admission: free
First the disclaimer: George Strait will not be performing at this event. But, that won’t stop his fans from celebrating his birthday at the King George Birthday Bash at Railyard Park. In lieu of the actual George Strait, Strait Country, a George Strait tribute band featuring Jason Ashley will perform all of George’s greatest hits. Food trucks will have concessions, and you will have a chance to sign a birthday card that will be sent to George himself. Take a lawn chair and a blanket with you for extra comfort.

My name is Marshall Hinsley and I produce this update and maintain Waxahachie360.com as a way to spread the word about the people, places and activities in my hometown. The update is always free, so if you see someone ripping off the information and putting it behind a paywall as I saw recently, well that’s just dishonest (I see you!).
NOTE: Marshall Hinsley d.b.a Waxahachie 360 does his best to reflect accurate times and fees for the events that he lists. However, neither he nor the event hosts are perfect and therefore he is not responsible for inaccuracies, typos, weather delays or cancellations, acts of God, mobs, riots, alien invasions, stock market slumps, unemployment, bratty children, the pollen count, gum getting stuck to your shoe, bad hair days or any other reason for the information failing to be correct. Confirmation of event details is the responsibility of the person who wishes to attend the event or activity. Buyers beware: all transactions are between the buyer and the seller and therefore Marshall Hinsley is of no pertinence to the transaction. Consider this weekly update a sort of suggestion that maybe something is happening, or maybe it’s not. I don’t really know.
