Adopt a dog or cat for $25 during the SPCA of Texas Showers of Love event

All through the month of April, you can adopt a dog or cat from the SPCA of Texas for a reduced adoption fee of $25.

You know the adage about April showers bringing May flowers? Well, they also bring a fresh opportunity to go ahead and add a new dog or cat to your circle of friends and family while the SPCA of Texas has reduced its adoption fees during its Showers of Love event.

All through the month of April 2022, the adoption fee for adult dogs and cats six months old or older is just $25, and they’ve got all their shots and have already been spayed and neutered, which right there saves adopters anywhere from $200 – $500 on vet bills alone if they take advantage of the offer.

The reduced fee is in effect at both the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas and the Ellis County Animal Care Center in Waxahachie.

“Pets adopted from the SPCA of Texas Ellis County Animal Care Center come with everything they need for a great start in life with their new family,” says Maura Davies, SPCA of Texas vice president of marketing and communications. “Not only are they already spayed or neutered, they are also vaccinated and microchipped. This $25 adoption fee covers all of those treatments and more — a tremendous value for a best friend that will give you a lifetime of love and companionship.”

The event comes just as the animal welfare organization sees its annual springtime increase in the number of kittens and puppies arriving at its various shelters. April is known as kitten season by animal welfare workers because of the sudden influx of kittens taken in by just about every shelter in the country. Therefore throughout April and well into summer, the organization will take in hundreds of new arrivals as people surrender animals they cannot care for and animal cruelty investigations discover dogs and cats in desperate need of kindness and care. The Showers of Love event is being held to help clear space for the new intakes.

All dogs and cats available for adoption through the SPCA of Texas have received a thorough medical exam and have been assessed for all the qualities that help ensure that they’ll be a happy addition to their adopters’ families.

Normally, adoption fees are $150 for puppies and kittens aged up to six months old, and $75 for adult dogs and cats aged six months or older.

Even at the regular fee, adopting from the SPCA of Texas offers a huge savings when compared to other ways to acquire a dog or cat because the fee includes spay or neuter surgery, which runs anywhere from $200 – $400 at the vet clinics in Waxahachie. The fee also includes all age-appropriate vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs six months old and older and a F.I.V., Fe.L.V. test for cats six months old and older along with initial flea and tick preventative and heartworm preventation.

Additionally, all dogs and cats adopted from the SPCA of Texas have been microchipped and receive 30 days of PetHealth Insurance provided by PetHealth, Inc., a free 14-day wellness exam with VCA Animal Hospitals, one week of free on-demand training from the GoodPup training app, a rabies tag and a free leash or temporary cat carrier.

“The adoptable dogs and cats at the SPCA of Texas are ready to shower you with love!” said Kelli Eaves, director of Lifesaving Initiatives. “By adopting a pet, you not only save the life of the pet you are adopting, but also save the life of the pet that takes its place at the shelter. There are some absolutely adorable and loving animals in the shelters right now. We’d love to find them all homes so we can fill up our shelters with more pets in need and continue the cycle of adoptions.”
