In a social media announcement posted in mid-December, the City of Waxahachie announced that a Kenzie Redington has been hired as the new director of Waxahachie Animal Services.
Kenzie brings more than a decade of experience in animal care, shelter management, and community outreach to the position.
Kenzie has worked her way to her present position by starting at the ground floor, beginning her career as a receptionist at a small veterinary clinic, and then quickly advancing to the position of veterinary technician.

Her dedication to animal welfare eventually led her to White Settlement Animal Shelter in 2010, where as part of a small three-person team, Kenzie gained experience in every facet of shelter work, including hands-on cleaning of the shelter facility, serving as a receptionist as needed, and performing the strenuous duties of animal control.
In 2012, she joined the Weatherford Animal Shelter as an animal care specialist and steadily advanced through a variety of positions, including senior animal care specialist, outreach officer, animal services coordinator, and ultimately animal services manager. Along the way, she developed new programs, built relationships with local organizations, and led teams focused on both animal welfare and public education.
Kenzie holds numerous certifications and has completed specialized training in critical areas such as animal control, shelter operations, emergency response, veterinary forensics, cruelty investigations, and community engagement.
Her education includes advanced and administrative animal control certifications, euthanasia procedures, disaster response, emergency shelter medicine, foster and volunteer program development, and training in shelter practices designed to reduce stress for animals.
Kenzie is guided by the belief that animal services should be approachable, compassionate, and responsive to both animals and the community. In Waxahachie, her goal is to make the city’s shelter not only a safe haven for animals but also a trusted community resource. She hopes residents will view the shelter as a place they can turn to for help, support, and education on all matters related to animal welfare.
Additionally, Kenzie hopes to expand a volunteer program to assist in placing more dogs and cats in homes.
In the city’s December 12, 2025 post on Facebook, Kenzie says:
“Hello Waxahachie! I’m Kenzie Redington, your new Director of Animal Services, and I couldn’t be more excited to be here! I’ve spent over 20 years working with animals—and I’ve loved every minute of it.
“Helping pets and the people who love them is what I’m passionate about, and I’m thrilled to bring that energy to this amazing community.
“Thank you all for being so welcoming! I can already tell Waxahachie is a close-knit, big-hearted place, and I feel right at home.
I’m looking forward to meeting more of you, supporting our shelter, and working together to make great things happen for our animals.”
