The S.P.C.A. Strut Your Mutt Race to End Animal Cruelty is a fun event for people of any age.

Registration is $35 for participants 12 years old and older. Children under 12 years old may participate free of charge. Individuals and teams may pre-register at the Strut Your Mutt webpage.

Participants will receive a goody bag with a Strut T-shirt, pet bandana, dog toy and dog treats.

Leashed dogs are welcome to strut right alongside their human companions during the walk. A Kid’s Corral will entertain children, and a Post Paw-ty will conclude the event.

The Race to End Cruelty also features the Bow Wow Bazaar with vendors that cater to animals and the humans who share their homes with them.

The fun walk is an offshoot of the Strut Your Mutt Race that’s taken place in Dallas for the last 18 years. Hosted by the S.P.C.A of Texas, the event gives dogs and their human companions a chance to enjoy a walk in the open air and the fellowship of their neighbors while raising funds for the non-profit that works toward ending animal cruelty, rescuing and rehoming lost and abandoned dogs and cats, and making affordable wellness care, vaccinations and spay-and-neuter services available in the communities served by the organization.

“We are so pleased to be part of Ellis County and the Waxahachie community,” said S.P.C.A. of Texas President and C.E.O. Karen Froehlich. “Since we opened the Ellis County Animal Care Center in July of 2020, we’ve provided safe housing and medical care to more than 3,806 companion pets and livestock and have provided return to owner, rehome, cruelty support and pet adoption services. In addition, in August of 2022, we partnered with the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office to provide free vaccines and microchips for 362 pets to support a healthy community for pets.

“SPCA of Texas is delighted to bring Strut Your Mutt to Waxahachie, not only because it raises funds for such an important cause, but also because it is a fun, family event to celebrate the bond between pets and their people.”

Established in 1938 and based in Dallas, the S.P.C.A. of Texas expanded into Ellis County in the summer of 2020 with the reevaluation, renovation and renewal of the shelter formerly operated by the unrelated and now defunct Ellis County S.P.C.A.

The S.P.C.A. of Texas is the largest, independent animal welfare organization in North Texas, operating two shelters, two spay-neuter clinics, two mobile spay-neuter and wellness vehicles, one mobile adoptions vehicle and an animal rescue center, all located in Dallas and Ellis Counties. The organization is not affiliated with any other local or national humane organizations and depends wholly on local, private support for its general operating funds.
