The Waxahachie Optimist Pool is open every day for the summer from noon to 7:00 p.m.
Despite the impression given by nearby road work and obsolete social media pages, the staff at the Waxahachie Optimist Youth Center say the Optimist Pool is open and better than ever.
Open from noon to 7:00 p.m. seven days a week for the summer months, the pool is a longstanding tradition for families throughout the Waxahachie area and will continue to be so for the long haul, says volunteer Director Bryan Johnson.
“This whole thing is for the youth and families in our community,” Bryan says. “The pool is a longstanding tradition in Waxahachie, along with the Optimist Center and the baseball fields. In recent years, we’ve replastered the pool, and added pergolas. The water feels great, too.”
Admission to the pool is $5 per day for children older than two years old. For frequent pool goers, Bryan says a season pass is $100 for the primary family member and $25 for each additional family member.
Volunteer coordinator Amber Hill says daycare hours are also returning to the pool from 9:00 a.m. – noon, and improved concession offerings will make the pool a special summer treat for children and adults alike.
“We’re also available for private parties from 7:00 – 9:00,” Amber says. “And we’re looking into themed events and maybe an adult swim time, too.”
As a community resource that depends on private donations in addition to public support, the Waxahachie Optimist Club has kept the pool open as a summertime resource for more than six decades, hosting countless children who can while away the hours of summer break without driving to a water park an hour away and spending a small fortune, Amber adds.
“We’re even open for July 4th,” Amber says. “We thought it would be important to be open for the holiday and give local families somewhere to go, and we know that people will want to come out and swim.”
The pool is located at 219 N Patrick St, Waxahachie, TX 75165. Parking may be accessed from Patrick Street, or in the case of road work at the pool’s main entrance, from southwest of the pool on Water Street as well.
“We have big plans to expand the pool and maybe even add a splash pad in the coming years,” Bryan says. “Few cities have such a place like the Optimist Youth Center, and we want to keep it updated and available for generations to come.”
