Coronavirus closes two Waxahachie events

Two upcoming Waxahachie events have been cancelled because of concerns regarding the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Late in the day on March 12, 2020, organizers for the Ellis County Master Gardeners Lawn and Garden Expo announced via Facebook that the expo has been cancelled. The event had been set for March 28, 2020.

“Our lawn and garden expo has been cancelled,” read the March 12, 2020 Facebook post by the Ellis County Master Gardeners Community, posted about 15 minutes prior to 5:00 p.m. Although the post offered no reason for the cancellation, several Facebook users commented that the decision was right in view of the international pandemic that’s arisen, thus giving context for the notice.

Several hours later, the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce posted and announcement that the Ellis County Market has been postponed. The market had been planned for March 14, 2020. The reason given was that state and local officials had advised such a move for mass gatherings.
