The urgent care chain Medexpress has announced the sudden closing of its Waxahachie clinic.
In an email sent on January 30, 2025 to past patients, the clinic made its announcement just hours before the clinic would shut down for good at the end of the day on January 31, 2025.

The email quotes Vice President of Operations Nathan Comstock as saying:
“Dear Valued Patient,
As your neighborhood medical center, we want to let you know about an important change taking place at our Waxahachie location at 1305 Dallas Highway.
MedExpress had made the difficult decision to close this center and our last day of caring for patients at this location will be January 31, 2025.
We have greatly valued the privilege of providing health care to you and your family. It has truly been an honor to serve patients in the Waxahachie community.
Should you need to access your medical records, please call 304-985-3636 or visit the MedExpress website at medexpress.com/medical-records.
Thank you for allowing us to care for you at MedExpress.”
For about a decade, the clinic has offered extended and weekend hours for tending to health matters that were too severe to wait for a primary care physician but not as severe as would necessitate a trip to a hospital emergency room.
For patients with health coverage, copays cost as low as $35.00, and uninsured patients usually paid under $150.00 for a visit, which for many local residents made the clinic an affordable alternative to costly emergency room visits.
Optum, which has owned Medexpress clinics across the nation since 2015 and is itself a subsidiary of United Health Group, has laid off nurses and other staff to reduce costs as part of a restructuring plan in recent years. It appears that the closing of the Waxahachie location is an extension of the company’s cost-reduction measures.
The closing leaves clinics in Irving and Arlington as the nearest Medexpress clinics for Waxahachie area residents whose health insurance coverage specifies Medexpress as an in-network provider.
