In a May 13, 2025 meeting of the Waxahachie Planning and Zoning Department, department members voted to recommend approval by the city council of a site plan for a new shopping center anchored by Sprouts, located on Bessie Coleman Boulevard at North Highway 77, across from the Y.M.C.A and between Belk and Academy Sport and Outdoors. The 8,53-acre development will be called The Plaza at Bessie Coleman and will serve as a multi-tenant center with a total of 47,249 square feet of retail with areas for restaurants, shops, grocery stores, offices, and personal service establishments.

Founded in 2002, Sprouts Farmers Market is an Arizona-based grocery chain that focuses on organic produce, healthy foods and fresh, natural products. Its products include fresh produce, bulk foods, vitamins and supplements, grocery, meat and seafood, deli, bakery, dairy, frozen foods, body care and natural household items.

Sprouts differentiates itself as “dedicated to being a responsible retailer and operate our business with a focus on the environment, product quality and supply chain transparency.”

In recent years, Sprouts has hastened an expansion into growing markets across the country. Shoppers in nearby communities have enjoyed a Sprouts in their hometown for years as Sprouts opened in Mansfield about a decade ago and in Cedar Hill around 2009. A Burleson location is currently hiring for its grand opening. The grocer employs approximately 35,000 people nationwide.
